SCIENCE FICTION SOCIETY SPECIAL EVENTS

The Star Trek Drinking GameTM

Held once very year (or twice if we've got money and beer to burn), Sci Fi's Star Trek Drinking Game TM is nearly as infamous as Gengis Khan's appetite. It typically involves a large group of alcoholics watching Star Trek episodes (particularly The Next Gen) and knocking back pints whenever the fancy takes them. Of course we have a strict set of rules and regulations governing the game, but these tend to be ignored amidst the raccous cries of "sexual reference!" uttered every two seconds. Expect to see drunken wasters doing foolish things like proposing marriage to people of the same sex. Don't expect to see avid Trekkies arguing the relative merits of Kirk and Picard's hairstyles.

The Sci Fi Christmas Party/Pub Crawl

Held every year in the last week of the first term, the pub crawl gives us ample opportunity to collaborate with our dear friends, the Wargaming and Roleplaying Society. Like all good crawls it involves travelling the length and breadth of Cork City following obscure clues to get to the next pub. Normally attendees are awarded with copious amounts of beer, and a Santa hat to boot. To survive one needs the cunning of a fox, the speed of an Olympian ostrich and the stomach of a guy with a really good stomach. Or alternatively you can just cheat. See if I care.

Science Fiction Week

By now I'm sure some of you are saying "hold on a second, all these Sci Fi events are just elaborate excuses for gettig drunk. What about the common non-drinking man and his needs, eh?". Well Sci Fi Week caters for everyones tastes, mon amie. This event usually occurs in late February and involves a wide range of Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy and The Alternative events daily. We show a selection of top grade, hot off the press movies and host a number of interesting and relevant discussions on the Science Fiction genre. However, the highlight of the week is the Sci Fi Mastermind CompetitionTM, which attracts the greatest intellects from around Cork (quite a motely crew really). Sci Fi Week also offers plenty of opportunities to get drunk. Again.

The Sci Fi / WarpCon VidiVeg

The Science Fiction Society runs a VidiVeg of sci fi, horror and fantasy films for U.C.C. Wargaming and Roleplaying Society's annual Convention, WarpCon. This involves screenings of recent and classic Sci Fi films and television series over the WarpCon weekend.

The A.G.M. (Annual General Meeting)

Oh God, this is really boring. This meeting is held in the third term of college to discuss the operation of the Society. Its purpose is to elect a new committee to take over the running of the Science Fiction Society for the next year. The only reason I go is beacuse I bloody well have to. I recommend you skip the whole meeting thing and proceed directly to the bar.
